You’re not Kidding Anyone

I’ve written before on the worst part of the going bald process. I’ve talked about it on the email list and in my ebook, too. As far as I’m concerned, it is that moment when you can no longer cover up your hair loss. It’s as if you are caught between having a full head of hair and being bald.

There is a part of you that insists on continuing to fight it. To keep covering it up, trying to hide it from friends, family and colleagues.

Here’s the thing, you’re not kidding anyone. A receding hairline is easy to spot. It’s also easy to notice a good faith effort to cover it up. I used to get specific haircuts and carefully arrange my hair each day. Turns out, I wasn’t fooling anyone.

I can’t overstate how much better my life has been since I buzzed off my hair. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. If I could go back in time, I would have been preemptive. I would have buzzed off my hair at least a year before I did. Doing so would have effectively removed a year of anxiety from my life. But I can’t go back. All I can do is offer advice to those who are struggling with the same problem.

I often use Jude Law pictures in these type of posts, because it was apparent that, at least for a long time, he had not come to terms with his male pattern baldness. I imagine it was difficult for him, given his status as one of the most attractive male celebrities.

While looking for another Jude Law photo for this post, I stumbled across this article on a celebrity website from earlier in the year. It seems that Jude Law is now facing up to his hair loss. In this article you can see photos of him with buzzed down hair.

It shouldn’t matter how Jude Law deals with his hair loss. But that fact that more and more celebrities are embracing their hair loss, rather than hiding from it or treating it, is significant, as I have noted before. It means that attitudes are shifting and your own “facing up to it” moment is getting easier by the day, whether you think it is or not.

Jude Law realized he wasn’t kidding anybody. Have you done the same? If you are thinking to yourself, “oh, well, Jude Law can pull off the look and I can’t,” have a look at this post and this post for starters. And as always, feel free to get in touch with me directly on the contact page.
